Idol Chit Chat: The Best of the 12 Gals

Karen Rodriguez

The top gals had their chance to take the stage on "Ameican Idol" last night and just off the top of my head, the best guys were better than the best gals.  Having said that, some of the gals came to play.  Here they are.

Top Six Gals

Karen Rodriguez:  I got scared when I heard her singing Mariah, but doing "Hero" in English and Spanish was brilliant and she did it brilliantly.

Naima Adedapo:  I got scared when I heard her singing "Summertime" but felt better when I heard the up-tempo jazzy arrangement.  And she was smokin' in that yellow dress.  This wasn't a blowout performance but I like Naima a whole lot and I can't wait to see her blow the roof off.

Lauren Turner:  This gal is a belter and proud of it.  She was great.

Pia Toscano

Pia Toscano:  I really hate "I'll Stand By You" but Toscano sang it so well, she made me forget that during the last half of the song. That shows how good she was.

Ashthon Jones:  I like her voice, hated her song choice.  But I put her down as one of the best, because she was.

Thia Megia:  The acapella at the beginning of the song was smart and overall a good start to the competition.

The Rest

  • There was lots of Rachel Zevita strutting but nothing to back it up.
  • There was lots of Haley Reinhart preening but nothing to back it up.
  • I barely remember Lauren Alaina and that's not a good thing.
  • Julie Zorrilla shouldn't have picked Kelly Clarkson.
  • And the two others were so forgettable, I'm not going to mention their names.
