DirecTV Saves "Damages" and Patty Hewes

63rd Cannes Film Festival - Tamara Drewe screnning - Day 7Y'all know I'm a big fan of the legal thriller "Damages," and its Emmy award winning star, Glenn Close.

However, despite this year's stellar third season, there was talk of it being canceled since the ratings were not what FX had hoped they would be after continued critical acclaim and multiple Emmy wins the last couple of years.

Well last week it was announced that the show will leave FX and DirecTV will pick up the series for two seasons.

Just like with the NBC series, "Friday Night Lights," DirecTV rode in on their shining white satellite dish to save the day.

There's good news and bad news in that.  The good news is, a great show gets a chance to showcase one of the best characters on TV in the last few years, Patty Hewes (Glenn Close).

Though I gotta tell ya', it'll be hard to keep up the high quality plotting of last season's wonderfully intricate Bernie Madoff-like plot.

The bad news?  I don't have DirecTV!  And honestly, I'm not about to get it.

So I thought, okay, give it six months and DirecTV will cut a deal with some broadcast or cable network to air the show. I may have to wait a couple of months, but I'll still get my Patty Hewes fix.

Silly me!  It seems DirecTV wants to keep the show all to themselves, greedy bastards that they are:

Unlike DirecTV’s deal with “Friday Night Lights,” “Damages” will not have a second run on a broadcast or cable network. So fans will have to become subscribers to DirecTV to see the next batch of 10 episodes – or else wait until they are released on DVD.  (via NY Times)

Fine.  Wonderful.

So thanks to DirecTV for saving a great show, and damn you, DirecTV, for being so blasted greedy!
