Did Adam Lambert Go Too Far on the AMAs? Nah! (Video)

Dear Adam,

It's me, Megan.  You know, I write those "Idol Chit Chats."  We met briefly in New York right after you lost the American Idol title to that other guy, Allen what's his name.  You were so nice and sweet.

But you weren't showing off that sweet side the other night on the American Music Awards, were you?  Simulated man on man oral sex!  Man on man open mouthed kissing!  Right there on the live ABC stage!

Oh the humanity!

Now, just between us, I still love you.  I thought the performance was actually pretty cool.  Even though I've had to defend you all over the place the last couple of days.  After all it was at the end of the show.  Any kiddies should have long since been in bed.

And honestly, the worst part about the simulated oral sex was it was bad choreography.  There is nothing about simulated sex on stage that's actually well, sexy.  Didn't anybody learn that from Madonna and the wedding dress masturbation act?

By the way, did those 1500 people who called ABC to complain about you miss Janet Jackson's crotch grabbing during her opening number?  Little Sis took a page out of poor Michael's book but the effect was the same.  Not. Sexy.

Now that kiss with the keyboard guy?  Absolutely sexy!  Ever since "Brokeback Mountain," this heterosexual lady has come to appreciate sexy guy on guy action.  And that kiss?  Hotty, McHot!

Also, are you okay?  I saw you fall on the stage and do that little tumble and roll to cover it up.  Hoping you're not sore today.  If you are, put some ice on it.

I see "Good Morning America" cancelled your free concert scheduled for tomorrow morning.  What chickens!  Did they really think you do that whole oral sex thing while people were having their breakfast?

That's okay, you've still got Letterman and "The Early Show" coming up.

You may have other trouble coming though.  Over at the Huffington Post, they're even saying you're hurting gay marriage!

But Natalie Stein at Bitch Magazine said:

So what does this Adam Lambert hoopla mean for gay women? It means that if Lady Gaga, an out bisexual, made out with a woman as part of her performance, it would be seen as great showmanship. If Melissa Etheridge had made out with a woman on stage, it would have likely been closer to the post-Adam reaction. It's just too real for America. Isn't that sad?

She agrees with you about that double standard you were talking about.  Like if Madonna and Britney Spears kiss on stage, it's not nearly as outrageous as if you kiss a guy.  I'm not so sure though.  Madonna and Britney both took some heat for that kiss, but then again like you, they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Lady T at Living Read Girl thinks your choreography was inspired by Bob Fosse and she agrees about the double standard too:

I just wonder if more of his Broadway inspired style would be more acceptable to some if he was a gal named Anna instead.

On the other hand, RMichelle at the Social Butterfly Experiment is with those 1500 people who called ABC:

S&M and leather and leashes…ok maybe that stuff is for dramatic affect. But simulated oral and anal sex and making out with men on stage….come on. I understand pushing the limits, but there’s a tasteful way to do everything and that wasn’t it.

Oh and by the way, you've also been accused of setting gay rights back 20 years.

Can I just tell you what a relief it is that this week it ain't nobody up on stage that looks like me being accused of that.  Kanye, step away from the mic!

I know you don't care about any of this as long as they spell your name right.  We all know the performance was a way to boost your album "For Your Entertainment," and to ditch the honeysuckle sweet "Idol" taint from your studded leather boots.

My only complaint though is you need some better songs.  Yeah, "For Your Entertainment"is catchy and everything but you and I both know you can do better.

You know I love you, don't you?  You're a talented guy and I see big things in your future.  And sweetie, I can handle what you're about to do.

Love Megan
