"Idol" Chit Chat: Hot, Hot, Hot Allison!

American idol

Disco dawned on "American Idol" tonight and the contestants were ready. Or, at least some of them were. This week is especially crucial because after Matt Giraud's big save by the judges last week, two contestants will be sent home tomorrow night.

Then there'll be five.

How'd they do?  Here we go.

Best Of The Night:  Allison Iraheta.  For the first time in I don't know how long, Adam Lambert got bumped out of this slot by the little red haired girl.  Adam was good but tonight, Allison was better.  She sang Donna's Summer's "Hot Stuff" and it was hot with a capital "H."  Unlike say former "Idol" Diana DeGarmo who was also sixteen while on the show, Allison can sell any song.  She's a real talent and if Adam doesn't watch it, could steal the competition right out from under him.

Worst Of The Night:  Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai.  I've run out of excuses for Lil.  She simply refuses to acknowledge that she's making the same mistake week in and week out:  namely choosing songs and arrangements that make her look like a bad copycat.  Taking on "I'm Every Woman" and trying to do it exactly like Chaka Khan?  Bad idea.  I think this was Lil's last chance.

Loved Anoop's new look tonight, but hated his performance.  The beginning of his version of "Turn Down The Lights" was dreary and the end was simply boring.

Second Best Of The Night:  Adam Lambert.  I didn't love the deep, ballad version of "If I Can't Have You" because I prefer the original disco version.  But as he always does, Adam sung the notes right out of that song and gave the performance everything he had.  Love him or hate him, he's an original.

Biggest Pleasant Surprise:  Kris Allen.  Perfect song choice, perfect arrangement and perfectly performed.  Who knew "She Works Hard For The Money" could sound so little like disco, but still so good?  Kris ain't winning the competition, but he regained my respect and should live to sing another week.

Proved He Was Worth The Save:  Matt Giraud.  He could have made "Stayin' Alive" a mess, but he acquitted himself nicely and proved he was worth the save.

Needs Disco Dance Lessons:  Danny Gokey.  I still don't see Danny Gokey's appeal and though he did an okay job, who cares?

Should Go Home:  Lil Rounds and Anoop Desai.

Will Go Home:  Lil Rounds and Matt Giraud--what can I say?  I think the teeny boppers are gonna keep Anoop around another week.
