Hail To The Chief: President Barack Obama
What can I say?
I'm proud, I'm emotional and I'm immersed in the thought that all my ancestors were looking over my shoulder as I watched a black man become President of the United States. As I watched him become leader of the greatest country in the world.
As I watched him become the most powerful person in the world.
A black man.
A man who 50 years ago could not have sat at a lunch counter in this country. A man who will now be living with his family, in the White House. A structure built by slaves.
What can I say?
"The time has come to reaffirm our enduring spirit, to choose our better history, to carry forward that precious gift, that noble idea passed on from generation to generation, that God given promise that all are equal, all are free and all deserve a chance to pursue their full measure of happiness." President Barack Obama, 44th President of the United States of America, January 20, 2009.
