"Love Actually" Should Be All Around On Television
Last week New York Daily News columnist David Hinckley wrote an article "'Love Actually' Is A Natural For Holiday TV Viewing." In it Hinckley complains about how finding the movie "Love Actually" on the TV schedule around Christmastime is a tough trick.
I couldn't agree with him more.
This year it's only going to air twice on USA Cable both in the morning, once on Christmas Eve at 6 AM. Yeah, that's a good time for viewers to find it.
As Hinckley correctly points out:
I originally saw "Love Actually" in the theater and loved it for it's sweetness and heart. It's got stars aplenty including, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Keira Knightley, Laura Linney, Colin Firth and Liam Neeson. There's even a cameo by Rowan Atkinson---and isn't he getting a lot of space on this blog this week?
The movie consists of several episodic stories about different kinds of love. Romantic love, brotherly love, parental love and the love of friendship. Among the stories: there's the aging rock star and his long suffering manager, the cuckolded writer who finds that language doesn't have to be a barrier to love, the little boy who has a crush on an older girl at school, and the sister who sacrifices her own chances for romance because of love for her brother.
The culmination of the movie takes place at a Christmas concert where a bunch of the characters come together in a rousing finale. The highlight is 11 year old Olivia Olson's amazing rendition of "All I Want For Christmas Is You. That's my favorite modern Christmas song and little Oliva out sang even the original Mariah Carey version. It's my favorite cut on the soundtrack and in my house the Christmas season hasn't started until I've played it.
So network execs? At Christmas, "Love Actually" should be all around.
