Tune In To The Emmy Nominated "Damages" Marathon
Did you miss the FX drama "Damages" the first time around? Are you curious about it now that it's received seven Emmy nominations, an unprecedented showing for a basic cable show? Are you a Glenn Close or Ted Danson fan? (Pictured here with co-star Rose Byrne.)
If you answered "Yes" to one or more of those questions, then make sure you tune in to FX on Saturday August 9th for the "Damages" marathon. According to TV Week all thirteen episodes of the show's very entertaining first season will begin airing at 7AM.
Second only to "Lost" as my favorite show last season, "Damages" is a legal thriller set in New York about a cutthroat attorney, Patty Hewes (Close), her ambitious protege, (Byrne) and a high profile case against a corporate bottom feeder, Arthur Frobisher (Danson) that brings them all grief. There's sex, murder, betrayal and wonderful plot twists---everything you could possibly want from a first class drama. By the way, you'll never think of Sam Malone the same way again, after seeing Danson hit this role out of the ball park.
The story is intricate, the directing and editing stylish, and the Emmy nominations for Close, Danson and fellow supporting actor Željko Ivanek are well deserved. Glenn Close's terrific performance was a lock, as was the show's nomination for Best Drama, but I'm surprised and pleased that Ivanek and Danson were both recognized.
Ivanek's role as Frobisher's attorney Ray Fiske, Mr. Deep Fried Southern Charm as I liked to call him in my recaps, is particularly crucial and well played. But, I'll give a quarter to the first person who can tell me how to pronounce his name.
I lost a lot of sleep writing all those recaps during the thirteen weeks of the show's run but it was great fun, especially when I discovered that for quite a while, mine were just about the only "Damages" recaps on the web. The show's second season should start airing in January and I can't wait to start churning out those sleep stealing recaps again.
So whether you're a "Damages" novice or a hard core fan, watch the marathon then come on back and read my recaps to rehash all those lovely plot twists and turns.
The Emmy awards air on Sunday, September 21, 2008 at 8PM on ABC.
