Things About "Mad Men" That Make Me Laugh
As you know I've become a "Mad Men" fan. One reason is because the show always makes me laugh. Last week's episode, "The New Girl" was no exception.
The meticulous attention the producers pay to 60's era details---the sets, the costumes, the hairstyles, the cars---sometimes cracks me up.
Everyone's talked about the smoking and drinking but the things that tickle my funny bone are more subtle. Here are some samples from "The New Girl:"
- When Peggy called someone from her apartment, it took forever. Dialing took so much more time than touchtone.
- When Don was driving, he and Bobbie were only able to snuggle because neither of them had to wear a seat belt. That was the reason for the accident.
- The reference to Marilyn Monroe possibly appearing at Madison Square Garden for President Kennedy's birthday. "Happy Birthday, Mr. President..."
- Joan Holloway's "va-va-va-voooooom" dress. Dresses like that were the primary reason women were often referred to as "stacked."
- Pete Campbell's comment to his doctor that though his office had gotten a new copy machine, he didn't operate it, so it couldn't have affected his sperm count.
- Bobbie telling Jimmy on the phone that she was at a "fat farm." Now, they call them spas.
- Whenever Don Draper sits down to dinner at home in a full suit and tie.
Do you have any "Mad Men" moments that make you chuckle?
