BlogHer '08 Day 2: Meet-ups, Card Swaps, & Dooce

Rubyskye I've returned to my native coast from BlogHer '08 and dude am I tired!  But it's a good tired.

When I left you last, I was basking in the glorious afterglow of the Community Keynote Speeches that closed out the first day of BlogHer '08.

Then it was party time at the club Ruby Skye.  It was sponsored by TNT and had as special guests Gina Ravera who plays Detective Irene Daniels on "The Closer," and two of the writers, Talicia Raggs and Roger Wolfson of "Saving Grace."  Gina is pictured here with reporter Rauhmel Fox.

BlogHers shook their groove thangs to the rockin' music and there was good food and drink aplenty.

Day 2 of BlogHer '08 involved more sessions on subjects of interest to aspiring bloggers and experienced bloggers alike.

It was also the day I led a session for women of color bloggers.  I didn't quite know what to expect, but I was very pleased by the end of the session.  I had the pleasure of chatting with about twenty-five very bright women about what kinds of things they wanted to see at future conferences---a women of color Mommybloggers session was suggested by Sandie Angulo Chen to discuss raising multi-cultural children.

Sandie was accompanied by her own adorable child, little Jonah and almost every time I saw him he was comfortably asleep in his Mommy sling.

One significant point brought up by BlogHer Contributing Editor Gena Haskett was to advise the bloggers to fill out their profiles on BlogHer.  We can't link to them if we don't know who they are and what their blogs are about.

The day before, I had the pleasure of participating in an entertainment bloggers meet-up hosted by myself and Melissa Silverstein of Women & Hollywood.

About thirty bloggers showed up to that one and what surprised me was how may public relations people attended.  At first it threw me off because I kind of felt like we bloggers were being infiltrated by spies, but it turned out to be a benefit.

Several of the entertainment bloggers had questions about making contacts with media companies and since representatives of the TNT public relations department were there, the meet-up acted as an educating opportunity on both sides.

The final keynote on Saturday was led by Elisa Camahort and included super blogger Heather Armstrong, better known as Dooce, and blogger Stephanie Klein.  They were funny and informative and though I don't always relate to the Mommyblogger set, I found nuggets of blogger wisdom in what they had to say.

Macys Afterwards, we got a tour of the local Macy's, party-style.  We started in the handbag department with hors dourves and champagne and by the end of the evening worked our way up to the furniture department with the comfy chairs, the DJ and the non-stop parade of snacks.

I'd decided to pass on the final day of the conference, correctly realizing that two days of conferencing for me was plenty.  Before hoping a shuttle to the airport, I had brunch at Sears Fine Food, down the block from the Westin.  It was a parade of cholesterol on a plate but I didn't care.  It was my last meal in San Francisco and I was going to enjoy it.

On my flight coming home it didn't surprise me too much that I found myself sitting next to and in front of two BlogHers.  The woman sitting next to me was Isabel Kallman the founder of AlphaMom.  It turns out she was sitting next to a gentleman who was part of a band on the plane that was auditioning for her husband---a music industry executive---later this week.  Funny how those things happen.

My BlogHer '08 is now over and I'm back home with my Daisy who did fine in my absence.  Sleep was the first order of the day, and then an attempt to go through the nearly 250 cards I'd collected over the weekend.   Luckily I have a year to get through them all in time for BlogHer '09.

Here are links to the sites of the women who attended the women of color meet-up, take some time and check out their sights:

If I've forgotten anyone, please let me know.  I tried to be as organized as possible but my methods may not be foolproof.  I'll be doing a separate post soon including some of the links from the entertainment bloggers' meet-up.

In the meantime, keep reading, keep blogging, and keep leaving those fabulous comments.
