Ted Danson of "Damages" Visits Regis
Ted
Danson who plays "Damages" crooked corporate exec Arthur Frobisher was on this morning's "Live with Regis and Kelly."
Looking very dashing in his natty suit, Ted talked about his role on "Curb Your Enthusiasm," Regis' guest stint on Ted's old show "Becker" and of course about "Damages."
I never noticed before how much of a Frankenstein-like forehead Ted has. It's very striking. I think the studio lighting on "Live" made it even more prominent than usual.
Among other things Ted told Regis and Kelly he's a vegan now. He used to pop antacids like candy and since he's become a vegan, he's been able to put the Tums away. He also evidently doesn't like watching his own performances. That's why he's only now getting around to watching "Becker." Personally, I think if he'd watched those Frobisher sex scenes, Ted might have insisted they cut them out and spared the rest of us.
He and his wife, actress Mary Steenburgen are about to celebrate their 12th wedding anniversary. They're both really busy crisscrossing the country for work but he thinks they'll meet in Chicago to celebrate.
The "Damages" clip they showed was from last night's tense deposition scene between him and Glenn Close---I can't wait to finish the recap of that! Ted said that Frobisher's a dark character who's in over his head. When Regis asked him if he's ever played such a dark character before, Ted mentions the ground breaking television movie he did in 1984, "Something About Amelia" where he played an incestuous father. Who played his wife? None other than Glenn Close. That was 1984? God I'm getting old!
While I'm on the subject of Ted Danson, some of you may not know he used to date Whoopi Goldberg, currently the moderator on "The View." And if you want to see an excellent movie with a very youthful, extremely slender, dark-haired, and pre-"Cheers" Ted Danson, pick up 1981's "Body Heat."
It's a modern day film noir directed by Lawrence Kasdan, starring William Hurt and Kathleen Turner and with a simmering score by the great John Barry. It's a steamy, sexy murder mystery that takes place in the middle of a heat wave in south Florida and Ted Danson co-stars as a lawyer and friend of William Hurt's character. So when "Damages" is over in a couple of weeks and you need a Ted Danson fix, pour yourself a tall glass of iced tea and slip "Body Heat" into the DVD player. You'll be glad you did.
And don't forget, last night's "Damages" recap, with its pivotal deposition scenes between Danson and Glenn Close will be posted by the end of the week.
