No Co-Host "View" for Sherri For Now
It looks like Star Jones' old seat at "The View" may stay empty indefinitely. According to Barbara Walters, quoted in today's New York Daily News, there will be no more co-host announcements for the rest of the summer. Babs said:
"I do hope to add somebody else to the cast," she said. "I don't know when it will be. It won't be this summer. But it would be nice to have another permanent member, because I don't want to be on five days a week.
Regarding the rumors that comedian Sherri Shepherd might get the chair, Babs had this to say:
"I think Sherri Shepherd is wonderful," added Walters. "She's been on our show before, I hope she is again, but right now our concentration is Whoopi."
The Daily News article quotes an anonymous source that says Shepherd wasn't offered enough money to take the gig. But I'm always suspicious of those kinds of quotes because a lot of times they're a way for the star to save face when the show says we're not hiring anybody else right now. And the more I think about it despite the rumors to the contrary, there's no way Babs was going to dilute the publicity power of the Whoopi Goldberg announcement by filling the other chair at the same time.
Meanwhile Rosie O'Donnell has given Whoopi her blessing. We can all breathe a sigh of relief over that.
