Idol Chit Chat: Haley's Last Legs
Adios Legs. We won't have Haley Scarnato to kick around anymore. The gams gravy train went on for as long as it could, and Legs is no more.
The big Wednesday night results show starring Jennifer Lopez had it all: fun, never before seen footage of Jenny hanging and singing with the Idol wannabees; a performance by some hip hop singer named Acorn...I mean Akon; the final eight singing a seriously uneven version of "Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias---every time Sanjaya, Haley, Phil and Chris opened their mouths I cackled like a chicken. It was like Il Divo and Billy Ray Cyrus hooking up with Barbara Streisand to sing "Sexy Back."
We then had an update on the "Idol Saves Africa" movement. We had video of Simon holding hands with an African child, showing the school supplies that are going to be donated with the money raised. And though I'm cynical as hell about their motives, I am glad the "AI" producers are using some of the gobs of money they make from this show on something more worthwhile than Simon's toe-nail polish.
Jenny "from the block" then took the stage backed up by some biker chick dancers in hip boots. She sang in Spanish so I don't know what she was singing but she sure sounded like one pissed off chica.
Before Jenny took the stage the final three were announced just long enough to call Phil, Haley and Chris out. The unstoppable force that is Sanjaya, lives to sing again...on country night!
Think about it. What's he gonna sing? "Crazy?" "Ring of Fire?" "A Boy Named Sue?" "Achy Breaky Heart!?" I'm hyperventilating just thinking about it. Good times next week.
Back to Wednesday, Chris wasn't out on stage long enough to start for beads of sweat to form when he was sent back. Chris was safe. Haley and Phil were not. We have commercials, Jenny sings, we have more commercials and the moment of truth. Phil, you are...safe. Haley's going home. I thought she took it better than when Gina went home last week, but her "Turn The Beat Around" rewind was even worse than her original and I didn't think that was possible.
Be happy, little Legs.
