Daisy's Hunger Strike - Part 2

Img_0228b Hallelujah!  The strike is over.

A couple of weeks ago, I told the tale of how Daisy and I were at a standoff.  Well, I blinked.

On Day 12 of Daisy's hunger strike, I caved.  I went to the vet's office and picked up a different brand of kidney formula dog food.  It's made by Eukanuba and though the vet warned that the formula was not quite as beneficial as the food Daisy hated I didn't care.  I just wanted her to eat.

Dinner time on Day 12, I took out one nugget of the Eukanuba and called my little senior citizen over.  Daisy stared at me suspiciously.

"Come on,"  I said.  "Try it."

She gave me that pitiable look that I had come to know well in the last 12 days and slowly came over.  I held out my hand.  She sniffed.  After a minute, she seemed surprised.  She licked the nugget gently.

"Go on," I said.

Finally she took it from my hand and crunched on it.  When she was done, she looked at me and suggestively licked her lips.  Yes!  I thought.  Not wanting to declare victory too early, I took out a handful of nuggets and put them in one side of her double pink and green porcelain bowl.  As soon as I put it down, DaisyImg_0231a  sauntered over and started to eat.  When she finished the whole bowl, I knew the strike was over.   Eureka, I thought.  It seems she's a Eukanuba girl.

I've decided to feed her the Eukanuba until her next check up in April.  I'm hoping the food will be effective enough to keep her protein levels stable.  Meanwhile, dinner time has returned to the raucous, joyous, bark-fest that it always was.

Daisy's happy again and therefore, so am I.
